I was inspired for this painting during Adoration at a weekend retreat. We were all kneeling before the monstrance in a simple classroom, but I knew that place had become holy because of God's presence there.

When I went to paint this image, I wasn't sure what the end result would be. Slowly the symbolism unfolded, surprisingly apocalyptic—burning cities in the background, money strewn about in the grass, an altar made of cardboard boxes. While I am still unpacking the meaning to this day, at the heart of it is this simple truth: even though the world may come crashing down around us, He Will Reign.
